Japanese Cinema Club 🎞️🇯🇵
What makes Japanese cinema different from Western cinema? How has it reflected the transformations of Japanese society, culture, and philosophy?
What makes Japanese cinema different from Western cinema? How has it reflected the transformations of Japanese society, culture, and philosophy?
A journey through the world of Japanese cinema over time, starting from the early days of silent cinema, where we explore the culture of Benshi and their role in films, and discover the world of samurai and how cinema has shaped their image, establishing concepts of honor, duty, and revenge.
Then we move to the post-World War II era, exploring how defeat and social transformations reflected in Japanese cinema, and how its creators turned to deeper questions through humanitarian and philosophical works, where we will learn about the most prominent directors and their films from that era.
From there, we reach modern Japanese cinema and the boom of the anime world and its ideas, to Japanese horror and how it differs from Hollywood horror. We will also take a look at the most notable Japanese films and series, discovering the worlds of traditional performing arts.
✨ From samurai tales to anime worlds, from the silence of the screen to the philosophy of the image, we invite you to discover Japanese cinema as a mirror of an ancient culture and a different perspective on the world.
